A short newsletter can be a good thing

Hi there.

I get a lot of questions about how long a newsletter should be.

There isn’t a correct answer, because there are very few “shoulds” when it comes to newsletters.

If your newsletter is helpful or valued by your reader and feels like it comes from you specifically, then it’s serving its purpose, whether it’s 150 words or 1,000 words.

It really, truly doesn’t need to be long. Most people have short attention spans, particularly when scrolling through the email inbox.

The questions I like to use as a filter: is this something that will make the reader’s day a bit better? Is it clear why I would want to send this to people?

If the answer is yes, then it’s worth sending.

A quick word, a short recipe, a photo with a few reflections, a note about an upcoming class - all of these can be valuable for the reader if sent with intention and care.

Don’t make your newsletter harder than it needs to be!

Warmly,

Camille
