August Pep Talk: How long does a newsletter take to work?

Hint: longer than you think!

Like many marketing approaches, newsletters often take longer than you’d think to show results.

How quickly depends on what you mean by “results.”

If the result is that your newsletter is your primary way of bringing in 1:1 clients, it might take several years of writing useful messages that resonate with the types of people you want to work with before you can count on a newsletter to fill your roster. (You’ll also want to have a specific plan for how you’re meeting new people and inviting them to sign up for your newsletter!)

However, if you think of the result as being of service to your readers, you might have results within just a few messages. You’ll know you’re getting this result because people will tell you that your message was interesting/helpful/fun/etc.

If the result you’re going for is getting more clear in your own head about what you do and how you conceptualize and discuss your work, you might see results within the first few months.

Remember that your newsletter is an expression of your practice mission and values. You can use it to serve your community, even when you’re still working to bring in enough 1:1 clients. As people get to know you, your work, and what you stand for, momentum will build and you’ll see bigger and bigger results.

Warmly,

Camille

Newsletter Book: Help?

As some of you know, I’m writing a book about how to build your 1:1 practice by writing a newsletter. I’m going in circles on the title & would love your input on this short google form if you have a moment.
